Outfit of the Week: On the Hunt
A couple weeks ago one of my colleagues wore fitted black pants with boots over them, a black t-shirt, and a red blazer to work. She said that her husband asked her as she walked out the door if she was off to hunt some foxes. It was adorable, both the outfit and the comment. I shamelessly ripped her off that weekend (I also SWF-ed her on her hairdresser, lol).
I was choosing an outfit that was suitable both for date night and for going to see a band play the next day (Jenny and the Holzers). I figured skinny jeans could be both sexy and funky.
For the red, I chose my silk cotton McCall 5708 Hilary Duff blouse and some RTW jeans, accented with a wide brown belt and brown boots. For the proper hunty, tweedy, English vibe I topped it with a blazer I bought in a vintage store when I was in high school. If it wasn't vintage when I bought it, I guess it has probably become so since!
I go through phases of wearing and not wearing this jacket, so it hasn't been in heavy rotation for the past 20ish years(!!!!--good heavens, that's scary), but it is old enough and has been worn enough that the lining is in shreds. I'm going to have to suck it up and use LindsayT's tutorial to replace it. Eventually.
The English Hunt is a look that never goes out of fashion (though fox hunting itself has, thank goodness). What do you have in your closet to evoke this classic style?

Super classy and super stylish!
That is super cute, the whole thing. I have some boots just like that so I might have to copy your copying. The belt looks good on you too.
I like the red with brown, instead of the usual red/black. And I'm jealous you still fit into a jacket you've had 20 years. ;-)
You look great! I like the red with brown too. Different, but so pretty. The blouse and belt really suit you, such a tiny waist!
verrrry cute! I lack a tweedy jacket and any boots except snow boots, so I can't look like I'm faux fox hunting! :)
Thanks for your kind words on my blog! I hurt my ab at the gym doing an exercise I've done hundreds of times before (the bicycle) and instead of resting I kept going back...and then pulled the muscle further during a cardio class where there was a lot of "twisting" movement. I thought of you and your boot! How is your leg muscle? Totally healed? Are you back to your regular gym schedule??
What a fabulous outfit! I really need to try some skinny jeans, I'm starting to finally warm up to the trend. I'm always late to the party and I have no idea if they'll do any favors for my figure.
Love the new hair style. Cute outfit, too!
Love your outfit! You look great. I really like the red blouse.
i love the red with the tweedy blazer.
i'm also excited to someone else who is kind of short wearing jeans tucked into boots... i've been reluctant to wear them because i worry about what it looks like if you're not 6' tall, but it looks great on you! :-)
Very cute! I love the equestrian/hunting style (though I don't hunt nor ride horses!) and have had a pair of riding pants from BWOF in the queue for years! Meanwhile, I cheat with skinny jeans, too. I love that you held on to your blazer - tweed is a true classic.
Isn't that nice to fit into something from high school!
Without the jacket you have the swashbuckling pirate look. Ar!
that is a CUTE outfit, girlie! love it!
I don't have anything vintage left, I'm afraid. That's what happens when you're REEEEALLY old and move twenty times. Things get lost by the wayside. Wish I did have something, yours is great.
Wow! You are looking FOXY in red and black! Another fab look on you!
Classic! I have the HD pattern too. Love the look you put together. Your side necktie is a winner!
Beautiful and fun! I'm working on a pair of skinny pants right now. Oh that I might have as much fun wearing them as you look like you planned to do in this photo!
The red looks so rich with the tweed. This is a great combo.
It took me awhile to get into the boots over jeans look, but it *is* really practical for winter - no soggy hems! My husband also comments that I sometimes look like an 18th century squire. Men.
Cute outfit. I think i need to hunt some foxes, tooo ;-)
